With imported products occupying the market, it is common to see that most people would rather buy them than domestic products. Some people held a movement on website to call on people shouldn’t buy imported products for protecting domestic market and increasing the reputation of domestic products. They think government should boycott imported products. However, another people don’t agree with them. They think if imported products are boycotted, they have no idea about anything fashionable from foreign countries. Whether it is right to boycott imported products for protecting domestic products become a topic to everyone. The reason for people support boycotting: Those who want to boycott imported products think if everyone chooses imported products, there will be less manufacturers starting up in the future. The reason for people fight against boycotting: they will get little information about fashionable things on world and so on. My opinion is: boycotting is not effective way to protect domestic products, because if without information from outside countries, technology in domestic will not improve. If without compeition, domestic manufactures will be not aware of their problems in quality of products. So domestic markets should be protected, but it shouldn’t be protected by boycott act.
For years, China has been trading with so many countries. Especially after Chinese opening and reforming policy was established, a large amount of imported products flushed into the market. Most people favored imported products. They would rather buy imported products than domestic products. Some people worried if it is continued, domestic products will be disappeared on market. They think boycott act will be an effective way to protect domestic market and improve the social status of domestic products. So, on website, some people’s argument about whether boycott act are used to protect market can be seen everywhere. Most people think that imported products should not be boycotted. They think that if imported products have been boycotted, domestic market will not be effectively protected and the social status of domestic products will not be improved if the quality of domestic product didn’t improve. If imported products have been boycotted, it is harmful for consumers and domestic manufacturers. Consumers benefit a lot from imported products. Their high quality and fashionable design attract them. They also want to choose domestic products, but these products are low in quality and bad in design. For domestic manufacturers, competition can give an impetus to the quality of domestic products.
However, some people, mainly as domestic manufacturers and patriotisms argue boycotting imported products is an effective way to protect domestic markets and improve the status of domestic products in society. Let’s look at how they think of it. Boycotting imported products can reduce the number of imported products. Even a country’s market has no imported products. Boycotting imported products will help domestic products to occupy the markets rapidly. They believe that with reducing the number of imported products by boycotting, customers cannot compare their products with imported products and have to choose domestic products. If they succeed in boycotting, national industry will be protected and developed. Domestic products in society will be gained reputation by public again. If without boycott act, national industry will not be protected and developed. If number of customers who choose imported products are increasing, domestic manufacturers and domestic traders will make no profit and close. They will not develop. Eventually, they will be defeated by imported products. In their ideas, if a country wants to be rich and power, they must develop and protect national industries. National industry is essential in development of a country.
In my opinion, I don’t agree that protecting domestic products and national industry through boycott act. Domestic markets and national industry should be protected and developed, but, boycott act cannot effectively protect and develop domestic markets and national industry and it cannot help domestic products to improve the status in society. By contrast, boycott act might be caused a negative impact on a country’s economy. Why? With respect of consumers’ benefits, if imported products are boycotted, customers will get no information of fashionable things on world. With regard to manufacturers, they will not have any chance to improve their products through boycotting. If their products are not compared with any imported products, their products will not be improved. With reference to diplomacy, if a country boycott imported products, their diplomacy relationship will be affected. How do we protect national industry and improve the status of domestic products in society effectively? Firstly, improve techniques of manufacture through learning skills from other countries. Secondly, manufacturers are expected to get more information about advantages of imported products, such as designs. It will help them to broaden their vision. Domestic products which have fashionable design on world will be welcomed. Thirdly, domestic manufacturers are expected to improve their quality. Everyone likes to choose high-quality products. If domestic products are lower in quality than imported products, no one wants to buy them even if imported products are boycotted.
China is a country with millions years of civilization. However, from 1751, Chinese government began to cut trading with other countries so that this country turned to be poor. With reforming and opening, China began to develop economy. Boycott act is equal to cut trading. If trading with other countries cut again, China will return to be poor. So boycott is not an effective way. An effective way to protect domestic market is to improve the quality of domestic products among the competition and to meet the needs of customers fully.
